Case Study, Grow|

HWNY’s sister organization, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC), was established in 2001 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) community-based organization working to improve health care access, delivery, and outcomes in a 14-county region of Central New York.  As a partner invested in advancing CNYAHEC’s Mission, HWNY provides invaluable services and technology that allow for maximum impact of the various workforce programs being delivered.

One such CNYAHEC Program is the MedLab Job Shadowing Program, where students can explore the world of medical laboratory science. It is estimated that 70% of all decisions regarding a patient’s diagnosis and treatment are based on laboratory test results, and through this immersive experience provided by CNYAHEC in partnership with Bassett Healthcare Network, students are exposed to a total of 15 shadowing laboratory hours with professionals.

Through the partnership, HWNY provides an HWapps Program Platform that promotes the program, shares program information and resources, and provides a portal for registrants and participants to access when signing up for job shadowing opportunities. Through this HWapps Program Platform, CNYAHEC is able to automate processes, provide a more relevant experience for young students who prefer digital over non-digital engagements, and spend more time on higher-level Mission-aligned tasks.
